Small Business Marketing

Although most Small Business’s recognise the importance of marketing and promoting their business, it is still one of the areas that many struggle with.

Small Business Owners and Solo Professionals typically spend the majority of their effort on the day to day running of their business – creating and selling products, providing services, dealing with customers and handling finances are clearly all important – but at the end of the day, pointless, unless they are actually getting customers in the door (or onto their website).

A Marketing Strategy or Plan

All small businesses undertake some form of marketing – if they didn’t they would not exist.  For some this is simply a matter of handing out some business cards,  advertising in a local newspaper, putting a sign up on the front of their business, telling their friends and families, or undertaking an online Pay per Click Campaign.  However most do not have any sort of cohesive marketing strategy or plan.  They tend to take an ad hoc approach to marketing, doing a little here, and a little there, and invariably this type of approach is doomed to failure.  Sure, it may generate some customers, leads and sales but ultimately, it is an inefficient and often ineffective way to promote your business.

Marketing your Business – Where to Start ?

The biggest marketing issue than most small business owners and solo pr0fessionals face is simply knowing where to start or how to go about putting together  an effective marketing plan for their business.  Most have fairly limited budgets and don’t feel that they can justify the (sometimes significant) expense of hiring a marketing consultant or advertising professional to guide them through the process of preparing their business marketing strategy.

The aim of this Small Business Marketing website is to provide hints, tips, guidance and resources to help Australian Small Business owners and Solo Professionals to develop and implement an efficient and practical marketing plan that is tailored for their specific business needs and budget.
